Helpful Strategies for Students: Reading Quick Check for Understanding
(Embedded in Engage NY Curriculum)
One strategy I use daily in all content areas of curriculum is the Thumb-Ometer to check for understanding.
I like the efficiency and effectiveness of being able to use this at random to check in with my students at any point during a lesson, as it takes seconds to show and assess independent student learning, and also gives them a chance to self-assess their own learning! This also allows me a quick visual to gauge whether I can move quicker through a lesson, or take more time if students don't fully understand a concept.
I have also attached the Engage NY Expeditionary Learning Document that shows a list of the key assessment for learning techniques as a helpful resource to adapt to any classroom!
